Across the pond, Little Mix kicked off their Get Weird Tour to a sold out crowd in Cardiff, Wales on March 13. They took the stage to do what they do best – slay the crowd with stunning harmonies, dance to their hearts’ content, and give their fans a pop show to remember.
Despite a phenomenal opening night with raving reviews from critics and fans alike, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall received harsh comments about their stage outfits. Some people thought the girl group were dressed inappropriately for all four costume changes.
Little Mix has been quick to say there’s nothing wrong with how they’ve dressed. In fact, it’s important to be confident and comfortable in your own skin and clothes.
“We wear what we feel comfortable in,” Edwards explained. “We’re not overly sexy in what we do anyway. We go for sexy/cute. We’d never want to be scandalous.”
Pinnock added, “If we weren’t comfortable, we just wouldn’t wear it. It’s not about being overly sexy, but it’s showing off your assets that you want to show off and if you feel confident in it, then boom.”
Echoing her bandmate’s sentiments, Edwards said, “We need to encourage each other and if you don’t want to have your body out then you don’t have to.” And she knows from personal experience. “I never used to want to get my figure out, but now I’m like, ‘Yes, here it is.'”
Edwards’ mindset isn’t just for herself. The way she sees it, it’s for everyone. “I look at [Pinnock] and think, ‘Yes girl, you’ve got one of the most insane figures I’ve ever seen.’…Girls should be like that.”
Empowering women, as Little Mix believes, is about feeling comfortable and confident in yourself without putting others down. After all, who doesn’t love a bit of girl power?
